About us

Our unauditioned community choir has been singing together since 2009. We meet at St Michael’s Church, Park Road, Abingdon, on termtime Monday evenings 7.00-8.30pm (with a brief halfway notices / comfort break).

At typical strength we would expect to see 20-25 singers in rehearsal.

Our repertoire ranges from early, classical and folk songs to ‘romantic’ partsongs, showtunes and medleys; always with a variety ‘on the go’ so as to offer something for everyone. Pieces are chosen by a committee, based on suggestions from within the choir and agreed by the Musical Director, with the aim of keeping this range and balance always in mind.

We sing principally for our own and each other’s pleasure, still hoping gently to improve our technique and blend and experience as the weeks and terms go by, but we have a tradition of performing two ‘sets’ at the Albert Park Christmas Party each year, plus our own summer soirée, and usually (also in the summer) take part in the Christian Aid community concert along with Carswell School and other local choirs. We have appeared on other local occasions down the years and enjoy this aspect of our wider role within the town. Visit the performances page to see what’s coming up.

Our Musical Director is Glynne Butt, with Michiyo Machida as a versatile accompanist. You can find out more about Glynne and Michiyo here.

Hear us in action in BBC Radio Oxford’s report on the Albert Park Singers, broadcast in April 2019.

New members of all ages and abilities are welcome and no audition is required, so do come along and join us! We offer a free taster session: why not try a rehearsal for free and see if it’s for you? To contact us, please use the form on the home page – we will reply as soon as possible.

Rehearsals are on Mondays at 7.00pm-8.30pm at St Michael’s Church, Park Road, Abingdon, Oxfordshire OX14 1DS.

Please note: practices are currently suspended due to the coronavirus. However, we plan to resume for the Autumn Term on Monday 13 September.
